A day at SPOT

A day here doesn't look like a day at school.

No bells. No rows. No six periods of sitting still.

Here's how it actually runs.

  1. Body and movement

    Before anything else, we move. Thirty minutes of it. Not PE, not a warm-up for the real work — this is the real work. A body that has moved learns better than a body that has been sitting since 7am. Every learner starts here, every day.

  2. The academic block

    Two hours, project-based. Maths, science, language, humanities — but approached through work that goes somewhere rather than chapters that get covered. A learner might be deep in a physics module they need for a build happening later that week. The academics are real and they are rigorous. They just aren't abstract.

  3. Lunch

    Together. Always together. For a lot of our learners, the social side of school was the hardest part. A small group and a room where nobody is performing changes that faster than anything we could design.

  4. Project block

    Ninety minutes on work that is genuinely theirs. Building, making, testing, failing, going again. Projects run for weeks, not periods. Some come from the learner. Some come from the community around us — a real problem, a real brief, a real person waiting for the answer.

  5. Wellbeing and wind down

    The day doesn't end at a bell. It closes. What happened today, what worked, what's next. Ten minutes of that beats an hour of homework.

  7. SPOT Studios(enrolled learners)

    For learners enrolled in Studios, the day continues. Deeper work in a chosen area with more time and more focus.

What else runs through the week

The timetable is the frame, not the whole picture.

Community visits

We go out. Regularly. The city is a better classroom than most classrooms.

Live community projects

Real briefs from real people. Learners build things that get used.

Baking

Food science, measurement, chemistry, patience. And it's genuinely one of the most popular things we do.

Art

Expression with no mark scheme attached.

STEM

Hands in it, not reading about it.

No two learners have the same day.

Same frame — movement, academics, lunch, projects, wind down. Completely different content, because they're working on completely different things at completely different paces.

That's not a scheduling problem we haven't solved yet. That's the whole design.
